PHOENIX 鈥� During the NFL Honors award show on Thursday night, first responders and other medical staff were honored for their treatment of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin after he suffered cardiac arrest mid-game on Jan. 2.
The awards show aired a video detailing the sequence of events that began after Hamlin collapsed after a tackle during the first quarter of a Sunday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Radio transmissions between medical staff played over scenes from the football field leading up to Hamlin鈥檚 arrival at the hospital. The video chronicled his medical stay and eventual recovery, culminating in Hamlin joining his medical team on stage, where he spoke.
鈥淪udden cardiac arrest was nothing I would have ever chosen to be a part of my story,鈥� Hamlin said during his speech. 鈥淏ut that鈥檚 because sometimes our own visions are too small, even if we think we are seeing the bigger picture.
My entire life I felt like God was using me to give others hope, and now with a new set of circumstances, I can only say He鈥檚 doing what He鈥檚 always done.鈥�
