Paramedic, police officer hailed for chemical-covered kitten rescue

JACKSON, Tenn. 鈥 A City of Jackson police officer and a fire-department paramedic are earning praise after teaming up to rescue a kitten found soaked in a chemical cleaning agent, the said.

Officer Taylor Gibbons spotted the kitten during patrol earlier this week. Recognizing the animal鈥檚 fur was coated in a potentially toxic substance, Gibbons partnered with City of Jackson Fire Department Paramedic Gabrielle Pride. Together, they thoroughly washed the kitten to remove the chemical, monitored it for ill effects and secured emergency veterinary follow-up.

Pride then decided to adopt the animal, which is now recovering in her home. The department鈥檚 Facebook post about the incident quickly drew positive reactions from residents who applauded the first responders鈥 compassion.

鈥淭hank you to our first responders for not only protecting our community but also showing compassion for every life 鈥 big and small,鈥 the department noted in the Facebook post.
