Infection control practices, such as donning appropriate PPE and properly disposing of sharps, is part of every patient contact, but given the range and severity of pathogens that EMTs and paramedics are routinely exposed to it is worth your time to assess and understand the risks, review standard precautions and make sure you are up-to-date with current infection control practices.

Nikki Cracknell - Medline Medical Affairs – Sr. Manager Clinical Development
Nikki Cracknell, MS,RN is a Sr. Manager, Clinical Development and a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Medical Affairs at Medline Industries, Inc. She manages the MSL team within Medical Affairs and is a member of the team that functions as a bridge between Medline and healthcare providers.
Nikki is a Registered Nurse with a Master’s degree in Physiology. Her career expands over 20 years working in the healthcare space within the clinical setting, as well as in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, with over 8 years of experience as an MSL and Clinical Educator involving acute and post-acute care and community outreach. She has extensive experience within healthcare-acquired infection prevention, emergency medicine, post-operative pain management, vascular access and physical therapy. Knowledge within these areas further involves clinical research, infectious disease treatment and medical nutritionals; amongst others.
Nikki is a member of SHEA (Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America), APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) and AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses) and has a Six Sigma Greenbelt.
Caryn Humphrey Arnold MBA, RN, CNOR-Medical Science Liaison
Caryn is a Medical Science Liaison and works directly with customers and internal stakeholders as a subject matter expert, scientific resource and collaborator. She is a resource for clinical data and clinical implementations and serves to support customer strategic initiatives.
Caryn is a long-term member of AORN, has served on committees and specialty groups, has collaborated, and authored several articles on improvements in healthcare in nursing and healthcare executive journals. She has been instrumental in developing and authoring continuing education offerings.
Prior to joining Medline, Caryn worked in multiple roles in industry to advance healthcare innovations and responsible and sustainable initiatives including clinical implementation, product management and field clinical director. She chaired a surgical technology program and practiced in multiple nursing care and procedural areas: her first love, surgical nursing, Intensive Care, the cardiac catheterization lab, the endoscopy lab and medical-surgical nursing.
Brittany Prater, Lead EMS Faculty
Brittany Prater serves as lead EMS faculty at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education with a focus in instructional design from Athens State University, where she is currently completing graduate coursework to obtain her master’s degree in career technical education leadership. Brittany is the lead instructor of many courses at both the paramedic and EMT level, including paramedic patient assessment and medical emergencies. Prior to her role as EMS faculty, Brittany worked in simulation as the EMS lab coordinator and established the standardized patient program at Calhoun Community College, serving both allied health and nursing programs. Brittany has experience working as both a ground paramedic and in the emergency department in rural Alabama.
