鈥楥ombative鈥 patient killed, struck by semi after exiting Ill. ambulance

The Illinois State Police said the patient became combative during transport, leading to the Carle Ambulance rig stopping on the interstate shoulder

A person was struck and killed by a semi truck after they exited an ambulance on Interstate 70 at around 2:55 a.m. Monday morning.

According to an Illinois State Police press release, the incident occurred at exit 45 near Greenville.

鈥淎 patient being transported by Carle Ambulance became combative during transportation and the vehicle stopped on the shoulder,鈥 the press release said.

They person died after they were brought to a local hospital, the release stated. Lanes were closed following the incident, but have since reopened.

The Bond County Coroner鈥檚 Office has yet released the name of the deceased.
