LOS ANGELES 鈥 A Los Angeles Fire Department recruit was killed Monday morning on the 101 Freeway in Studio City while rendering aid at the site of a traffic collision.
Jacob Fuerte, 22, was fatally injured shortly after 5 a.m. near Vineland Avenue. He was on his way to routine academy training in his personal vehicle when he stopped to assess the scene of a crash, said LAFD Capt. Erik Scott.
According to , the crash involved a sedan, a Jeep Wrangler and a truck towing portable restrooms. Other details about the initial crash were not available. Scott said Fuerte was likely struck by a separate vehicle.
Fuerte, who joined the department in February, was the son of an LAFD paramedic.
