Several Wyoming County ambulance companies are receiving help courtesy of a donation campaign put together by the Wyoming County Community Health Foundation.

At a Wyoming County Commissioners meeting on May 27, Commissioner Rick Wilbur read a letter from the WCCHF stating that financial contributions are still being accepted for the EMS staffing program, and that approximately $300,000 has already been raised with local businesses, organizations and donors donating.

The money raised will be distributed among Kunkle Fire & Ambulance, Meshoppen Fire Company鈥檚 Ambulance, FWM Emergency Service out of Mehoopany, and Tunkhannock Community Ambulance. It comes as these companies are moving to some paid EMS staff to run their ambulances as ambulance companies all around the country struggle to find volunteers. Earlier this year, Factoryville Fire Company announced it will shut down its ambulance services on July 1.

According to Wilbur, businesses and organizations can donate to the campaign and receive a 90% tax credit, and commissioners hope more people will take advantage of the opportunity as the EMS crisis continues to persist in Wyoming County and across Pennsylvania.

Commissioners said Wyoming County鈥檚 primary election results were certified Friday morning, May 23 , and it was one of the smoothest elections in a while that the county conducted.

鈥淭here were no equipment malfunctions or ballot malfunctions at all,鈥 Commissioner Tom Henry said. 鈥淎ll of the ballots were submitted and counted with no issues and we were able to certify our election with no trouble.鈥

The county is also meeting with engineering companies about a possible bridge replacement and bridge repairs. The county-owned bridge on Brides Road in Falls Twp. is in need of being replaced and the bridge on Buttermilk Road in Falls Twp. is in need of repairs.

In other business, commissioners approved a contract with Scantek for monthly maintenance of the county鈥檚 old scanned/digitized records that are now available online through Infocon Software system. The cost of the monthly service is $50 per month. Since this became available online, the county is making about $600 a month for fees of online users.

They also voted to renew Red Cross lease of office space at the county 911 center for two years with 90 days written notice to terminate at no charge. This lease has been in place since the 911 center was built and is one more renewal.

Commissioners also approved a contract with Shadow Technologies for Microsoft Server 2025 data center license for $48,235. The servers are running on 2012 software that is no longer supported. This is for CAD servers for 911 that are mission critical. The contract is paid by Act 13 Marcellus Shale funds.
