Children among at least 8 stabbed at dance event in England

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the stabbing attack in Southport

SOUTHPORT, England 鈥 An English children鈥檚 hospital is responding to a 鈥鈥 where at least eight people were wounded Monday.

The owner of an auto repair shop who witnessed the incident said the victims appeared to include several 鈥測oung girls,鈥 according to the BBC. Several mothers were reportedly heard 鈥渟creaming鈥 during the chaos.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said she was 鈥鈥 about news from Southport and had spoken to Merseyside Police.

鈥淥ne man has been arrested and,鈥 Merseyside Police posted on social media. 鈥淭here are casualties.鈥

Authorities added there was no longer a threat to the public and urged the public against speculation while law enforcement investigates.

A 鈥鈥 geared toward children under the age of 7 was taking place where the stabbings occurred, according to the BBC.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer promised updates as more information became available.

鈥淗orrendous and deeply shocking news emerging from Southport,鈥 he posted on X. 鈥淢y thoughts are with all those affected.鈥

More than were dispatched to address casualties. The popular Southport Football Club as an emergency response headquarters if needed.

Southport is in northwest England bordering the Irish Sea. to roughly 94,000 people.
