N.J. woman hospitalized after jumping from moving ambulance

A woman from Sewell was seriously injured after jumping out of a moving ambulance on I-295 near Mount Laurel

BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. 鈥 A woman was hospitalized with serious injuries on Friday after bolting out of a moving ambulance on a highway in Burlington County, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on a stretch of I-295 near Mount Laurel, a New Jersey State Police spokesperson said in a statement.

The van-style ambulance was traveling northbound when its rear seat passenger, a 37-year-old woman from Sewell, jumped out of the back, police said.

The woman 鈥渋mpacted the roadway,鈥 leaving her seriously wounded, police said. She was not immediately identified.

Northbound lanes were briefly closed as emergency crews investigated the incident, the New Jersey Department of Transportation .

The incident was under investigation on Saturday. No other details were immediately available.
