An Orange City Fire Department ambulance was stolen as paramedics were dropping off a patient at Foothill Regional Medical Center

ORANGE, Calif. — A suspect was in custody after the California Highway Patrol pursued an ambulance that was stolen from Tustin on Tuesday night, broadcast reports said.

The suspect stole the vehicle from Orange City Fire Department personnel as paramedics were dropping off a patient at Foothill Regional Medical Center,

It happened a little after 8 p.m.,

The rear doors of the vehicle remained open throughout the entirety of the pursuit, which was viewed by TV news helicopters on the 91 Freeway in Orange and Los Angeles counties and on the 710 Freeway in LA County.

The suspect surrendered to officers after stopping to the side of the southbound 710 at East Carson Street in Long Beach and exiting the vehicle, according to CBS LA.

Information on the identity of the suspect was not immediately available.
