Several injured when SUV crashes into N.Y. medical building

An SUV crashed into the Yonkers clinic lobby, injuring several people

YONKERS, N.Y. 鈥 Multiple people were injured Wednesday when .

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at a building on Central Park Avenue when the SUV careened about 20 feet into the lobby.

The Ford Explorer driver, passenger and three employees who were not in the car were injured. They were transported to a hospital. The driver was described as critically injured.

Yonkers Fire Department officials said the driver and her husband were seriously injured.

Assistant Fire Chief James Kenny said the woman, who was described as an older person, was trapped after the building鈥檚 front door came through the windshield and pinned her to the seat. Firefighters were able to go through the back door to free her.

Police are investigating to see if the crash was caused by a medical episode, ABC7 reported.

No other information about the victims was released.

鈥淭he practice location is closed, and patients are being notified about changes to appointments,鈥 a Montefiore spokesperson said.

The building was damaged and its structure will need to be evaluated by engineers.
