Va. ambulance crew, patient injured in crash with tractor-trailer

A Bloxom ambulance overturned after striking the tractor-trailer

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — An ambulance transporting a patient was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer on April 8 in Accomack County, Virginia State Police said.

According to police, the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company ambulance, which had its emergency lights and siren activated, was en route to a hospital when it attempted to maneuver around a stopped tractor-trailer in the southbound left lane on Route 13, reported.

The tractor-trailer had stopped at a red light when the ambulance struck it while passing. The impact caused the ambulance to overturn.

Three people in the ambulance were transported to hospitals in Virginia and Maryland. The patient was flown to Norfolk General Hospital, reported.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The Virginia State Police said charges are pending.
