Colo. community response crew finds burned homeless man under bridge

The initial call for the Colorado Springs Community Response Medicine crew was for man lying near the water

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. 鈥 A man who told police he was attacked and set on fire is being treated in serious but stable condition Monday after being rescued on the ice near a bridge with burn injuries and hypothermia.

Colorado Springs Fire Department spokesperson Ashley Franco said a community response medicine unit responded to a passerby鈥檚 call at a bridge near Beacon Street and West Van Buren Street around 11:30 a.m., finding a man lying on the ice near the water.

Franco said the CMED called for a heavier medical response and the man was brought to an area hospital for his injuries, which included signs of burns.

A Colorado Springs Police blotter entry said that the man claimed he had been 鈥渁ssaulted and set on fire.鈥 A police spokesperson said that officers were investigating the incident.
