Carlos Santana postponed his San Antonio concert after being hospitalized for dehydration

SAN ANTONIO, Texas 鈥 A legendary rock guitarist has been hospitalized after collapsing during soundcheck at a concert.

Carlos Santana postponed Tuesday night鈥檚 performance in San Antonio after being taken to an area hospital in an ambulance. According to , the San Antonio Fire Department said Santana had 鈥渁 non-life-threatening condition鈥 and was transported for treatment 鈥渙ut of an abundance of caution.鈥

鈥淢r. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight鈥檚 show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration,鈥 Santana manager Michael Vrionis said in a statement. 鈥漁ut of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.鈥

Santana plans to reschedule the concert and continue the rest of his U.S. tour dates, Vrionis said. He鈥檚 next scheduled to perform Wednesday in Sugarland, Texas , and has another 50 shows booked this year.

Santana, 77, has faced several health issues in recent years. He had heart surgery in 2021 and at a 2022 concert in Detroit due to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Earlier this year, he delayed the start of a Las Vegas residency after suffering a fall at his home.

Santana, the leader of his eponymous band, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitar player who first rose to fame with his performance at the original festival. His hits include 鈥淓vil Ways,鈥 鈥淪mooth,鈥 鈥淪oul Sacrifice,鈥 鈥淏lack Magic Woman鈥 and 鈥淧ut Your Lights On.鈥 He most recently released 鈥淪entient,鈥 a compilation featuring collaborations with Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Miles Davis and Darryl 鈥淒MC鈥 McDaniels, plus three previously unreleased tracks.
