Calif. first responders rescue Jeep driver in off-road rollover

Paramedics faced a complex rescue on a popular trail near Cajon Pass

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. 鈥 A Jeep rolled over on top of a man on a 鈥渞ugged鈥 off-road trail, pinning him beneath the vehicle, California firefighters reported.

The around 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, on an off-roading trail near the Cajon Pass, San Bernardino County Fire said in a news release.

Others on the popular trail, a U.S. Forest Service road east of Interstate 15, called 911 after the crash, firefighters said.

Firefighters responded on all-terrain vehicles and requested help from a San Bernardino County Sheriff鈥檚 Department helicopter, rescuers said.

Paramedics provided 鈥渁dvanced lifesaving care鈥 in the 鈥渃omplex鈥 rescue, which also involved leaking fuel, steep terrain and unstable ground, firefighters said.

After being freed, the man was hoisted onto a helicopter to be taken to a trauma center, firefighters said. No information on his medical condition was available.

The rescue, which also involved the U.S. Forest Service, took several hours to complete, firefighters said.

Cajon Pass is about 55 miles northeast of Los Angeles, near the Angeles National Forest.
